MotorSkins’ unique system is inspired by the hygroscopic movement of plants. The result is a bio-inspired, passively actuated system that harvests the potential energy in a person’s gait, using each step to power the next one. Taking advantage of the flexibility provided by digital fabrication techniques, Motorskins aims to enhance the autonomy of people with walking difficulties through a new paradigm of comfortable, tailored and affordable assistive technology.
